The Heritage lettuce we grow is called “Bloody Warrior”, the name being derived from the flecks of red on the leaves. Although it is a “cut and come again” type, we still make successional sowings and will continue to do so from time to time up until September when we will try to overwinter some. We will allow some to flower for seed, but will not allow any other lettuces to flower to avoid the risk of cross pollination. Our other lettuces are also cut and come again, Fristina being green and Lollo Rossa being red. They look good as decorative plants in any spare space in borders or planters, especially when next to each other. We have already harvested a few leaves to garnish our lunches.
