Looking beyond the garden

After a week of sowing and growing and blogging, Sunday seems a good day to look beyond the garden and our grubby fingernails. So I thought I would share part of a poem called “For the Children” by Gary Snyder – poet, “environmental activist with anarchoprimitivist leanings”, “poet laureate of Deep Ecology”, seaman, Pulitzer Prize winner, “The Thoreau of the Beat Generation” (associated with Ginsberg, Kerouac, Ferlinghetti etc.), logger, Zen Buddhist and more!
In the next century
or the one beyond that,
they say,
are valley, pastures,
we can meet there in peace
if we make it.
To climb these coming crests
one word to you, to
you and your children:

stay together
learn the flowers
go light
