Heritage update: Achocha

We were sent seeds for Achocha Fat Baby this year and having started them off inside, they are now growing outside in a container and beginning to latch on to the canes. We also sowed some saved seeds from the unnamed variety we have grown at Serpentine for the last three years. This is also growing well, planted in one of our outside beds. It is interesting that this saved variety has much narrower leaves than the new variety. Perhaps that is why it is called “fat”? We will keep tracking and comparing as they continue to grow.
