Turning the compost heap

After writing yesterday’s blog, we got stuck in to the main activity of the day – the compost heap. Glad we did – today’s weather is much more less pleasant to work in.
Garden compost is a great way of maintaining the health of the plot, especially the areas where we will be growing Heritage plants for SCG. Last year, a stretch of fence blew down. We rescued as much as we could and used some to fill awkward shaped gaps in the fence adjoining our neighbour.
The remaining bits of fence panels, plus some discarded posts from another neighbour, we used to make two bays for compost. With all the spare time we have had recently (!) we have managed to tidy enough of the garden to fill one bay.
So today’s job was to turn the full bay into the empty one after taking off the fronts of both bays. We were delighted that the full bay had a plentiful supply of worms working on it.
Job done, empty bay ready to start filling again, time for a cup of tea!
