Activity Log - 2019

January 2019 – Seedy Saturday, 300+ packs shared. Wednesday Workshop – review, planning and exploration of compost mixes. Recorded interview for Oral History project. Afternoon talk to Burbage Allotment Group.

February 2019– Donated greenhouse transported,  assembled and glazed on wooden base. £600 donation from BCA received  towards  automatic irrigation system. Wednesday Workshop – plant pots and trays from paper pots to heritage clay specimens. Early butterfly sightings.

March 2019 – One Zebra hawthorn turned into twelve. ‘Sunken area’ cleared. High winds and snow mid-month. Woodchip layer refreshed across most of the site. Transition Buxton Market Stall seed sharing. Three additional ton bags filled to provide more growing space. Wednesday workshop  – pricking out and potting up seedlings; organic methods for dealing with pests.

April 2019 – First pre-school visitor group of the year. Autumn planted fruit trees showing growth; plum tree coming into flower. First delivery of the year of salad tray to Green Pavilion. Increasing number of talks and tours arranged to meet demand from local groups. Wednesday workshop – successional sowing.

May 2019 – Launch of Nature Tots fortnightly Fridays with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Funny Wonders Flowerpot Workshop. Wednesday Workshop. Automatic Irrigation system installed (match funded by Buxton Civic Association). Picnic tables assembled

June 2019 – Rotary Summer Bazaar. Buxton Garden Trail. Bird boxes donated by Soroptimists. Wednesday Workshop – future planning.

July 2019 –  Hosts for Bumblebee Conservation Trust as part of Buxton Arts Trail. 200 visitors. Summer Thyme with NoJoKe. 150 people joined 10 volunteers organisers, stewards and bar (cocktails) staff.

August 2019 – Flower tasting workshops. Pre-school visitors from Burbage Nursery and Little Stars.

September 2019 – Talks and tours with U3A, Trefoil Guild, Inner Wheel.

October 2019 – Final session for Nature Tots. Volunteer work party of Tarmac staff – Installed handrail, constructed and filled octagonal planter. Apple Day. Members’ Annual General Meeting. Agreed change of name, application for charitable status.

November 2019 – Long-term lease agreed in principle. Planning workshop – 2020 vision.Wednesday workshop – structure of talks and tours.

December 2019 – Winter Gathering.
