Sowing today

Today’s modest sowing went according to plan. We sowed flowers Penstemon, calendula, and Evening Primrose. The Few Evening Primrose seeds we have originally came from a visit to Hulme Community Garden which we visited when the live version of Lost Words was being performed. We also sowed Heritage mangetout pea Eat All. The Heritage Seed Library (HSL) sent us ten seeds of Eat All which we sowed last year. We ate some of the crop and enjoyed it – large flat tasty pods – and saved seed so we could sow again this year. We have room for 24 plants so we sowed 30 to give us a margin and hopefully will have enough to eat, enough to save, and enough to send some back to HSL. HSL is struggling to get enough people safely on their site to sow and grow, so any help we can give will be particularly welcome.
Butterflies have been back today and on Saturday (4th) we saw our first bat of the year, cruising over the back gardens. Last year’s first sighting was 30th March and in 2018 it was 8th April so not much between the first dates.
